Juvenile Court is a special court that deals with under-age defendants who violate any federal, state or municipal law, and any child who is abused, neglected or dependent. Juveniles over which it has jurisdiction are generally under the age of 18. The Colorado truancy statute requires youth attend school from the ages of 6-17. Youth are subject to juvenile court jurisdiction at the age of 10. Fortunately, through the Foster Youth in Transition (FYIT) cases, we can represent and support a youth until 21.
